I've always been obsessed with Manet, as I think his paintings are so photographic - in particular, their compositions with their unconventional crops, and his focus on the 'everyday'. Although he was painting as photography was quickly developing during the 19th Century, I feel that he was thinking well ahead of the technology and it's ability to capture an instant, and turn the ordinary into the extraordinary through imagery (the decisive moment, and all that)...the 'photographer's painter', so to speak!
