The First Cold Night In Fall

Last night I lay in bed face down, trying to fall asleep. I was somewhere in my sheets and had the window open a crack but the freezing air crept in, making one side of my body cold as you kept the other side of me warm. Thinking about something, I heard high heels clicking the concrete sidewalk at a steady but relaxed pace. And a laugh. And then the clicking slowly began to fade away and then I couldn’t hear it anymore.
